In Standing on Sacred Ground’s second episode, Profit and Loss, we have a couple brief scenes featuring Mike Mercredi explaining a detailed map of the tar sands that he and Lionel Lepine created for their Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation tribal government. The four clips we use in the film are about 20 seconds each, but they are cut from a 19-minute “map rap” in which these two amazing indigenous activists run through a powerful stream of consciousness describing the tar sands from a dozen angles.
