Report of the Native American Sacred Lands Forum

The two-day Native American Sacred Lands Forum, held in Denver and Boulder, Colorado in October 2001, was convened because of a need voiced by Native Americans to find solutions to the serious lack of protection given to sites and issues considered sacred by tribes. SLFP Project Director Christopher McLeod was a member of the planning committee, and SLFP’s new film In the Light of Reverence was screened as part of the forum.

This report provides a summary of the forum’s recommendations in areas including education, Native leadership, legal tools and legislation, and land management policies, as well as observations for consideration by organizers of future dialogue sessions.
